چکیده

Anomia (word-finding difficulties) is the hallmark of aphasia, an acquired language disorder most commonly caused by stroke. Assessment speech performance using picture naming tasks a key method for both diagnosis and monitoring responses to treatment interventions people with aphasia (PWA). Currently, this assessment conducted manually therapists (SLT). Surprisingly, despite advancements in automatic recognition (ASR) artificial intelligence technologies like deep learning, research on developing automated systems task has been scarce. Here we present NUVA, utterance verification system incorporating learning element that classifies 'correct' versus' incorrect' attempts from aphasic stroke patients. When tested eight native British-English speaking PWA system's accuracy ranged between 83.6% 93.6%, 10-fold cross-validation mean 89.5%. This was not only significantly better than baseline created study one leading commercially available ASRs (Google speech-to-text service) but also comparable some instances two independent SLT ratings same dataset.

Automatic word naming recognition for treatment and assessment of aphasia

VITHEA is an on-line platform designed to act as a “virtual therapist” for the treatment of Portuguese speaking aphasic patients. Concretely, the system integrates automatic speech recognition technology to provide word naming exercises to individuals with lost or reduced word naming ability. In this paper, we present the solution adopted for the word naming task, which is based on a keyword sp...

Dexamphetamine boosts naming treatment effects in chronic aphasia.

To date, minimal research has investigated the effect of combining dexamphetamine with standard naming therapy after stroke. The present study used a double-blind, placebo-controlled, multiple baseline, crossover design with two individuals in the chronic stage of stroke recovery. Each individual attended two 4-week blocks of naming therapy (two to three treatment sessions per week). Dexampheta...

Drawing: its contribution to naming in aphasia.

Drawing in aphasia therapy has been used predominately as a substitution for speech or to augment communication when other modalities are non-functional. The value of drawing as a route for facilitating verbal expression has not been a focus of prior research. We compared the usefulness of drawing and writing as compensatory strategies for improving naming in individuals with aphasia. Activatio...

The Relationship Between Memory, Type, and Severity of Aphasia With Confrontation Naming in Post-Stroke Patients With Chronic Aphasia

Objectives: The brain’s widespread neural functions lead to aphasia in which the patients experience difficulties in cognitive and language functions. Memory, type, and severity of aphasia are associated with language and the naming process. In the current study, we investigated the relationship between memory, type, and severity of aphasia using the confrontation naming test in post-stroke pat...
